The national power provider in Nigeria popularly called NEPA is probably the most useless government company or organization in Africa, if not in the world.
Power supply is almost absent despite billions of dollars earmarked for this company annually. The problem with NEPA has been treated in several essays here.

Power supply in Nigeria is worse than a nightmare.
Every Nigerian family/household now has a generator. The size, numbers and quality of your generation is even a revelation of your economic strength. Therefore generators have names and one popular one is “I pass my neighbor”. I pass my neighbor is one the smallest generators you can buy and if your neighbor doesn’t have any, definitely you are richer than him/her.
What is even worse is that you will pay monthly for electricity bills whether you have used it or not. NEPA is a government agency in Nigeria that is duping the people of billions of naira across the country everyday.
Sometimes you can have electricity for 2 or 3 days only in a month, yet your bill will be on the rise. NEPA forces you to pay anyway. The option is that NEPA can “cut” your light so that you are deprived of resting your generator for those (2 or 3 days) of interrupted power supply.
NEPA is one of the biggest woes in Nigeria. Among other national calamities in Nigeria NEPA is a clear revelation of the total absence of intelligence among the evil ruling class.
Some countries in the world have had uninterrupted power supplies for hundreds of years and Nigeria cannot boast of 24 hours of uninterrupted power. Nigerian rulers are fools to the core.
What would have been more rewarding than to set a one-agenda program of ensuring that power is steady in Nigeria? Since 1999 rogues, thieves and looters have paraded the landscape of Nigeria.
They are all thieves.
Before 1999 it was the same story but things got worse under civilian looters. There is no sense in Nigerian politics and policy.
On what will the economy rest? What is the backbone of technology, science, innovations, growth and development if not constant power supply?
Several companies both big and small run on own power generations.
Those who cannot do have left Nigeria and others have packed up totally. Nigeria has about 5 to 6 generations of unemployed graduates and unemployment generally will be on the rise in the absence of power.
There are no genuine commitments from any Nigerian government to make power constant. A serious / an embarrassed government will almost invariably shed other agenda or program to ensure that power supply is constant at all cost, at any cost. Not Nigeria where fools are in power all the time. It’s a shame, a disgrace beyond human comprehension.
The kind of power supply in Nigeria does not correlate with the fact that people pay bills for electricity. By now the government of Jonathan should be so ashamed to even ask people to continue to pay NEPA bills.
The way things are in Nigeria, people should not be paying for electricity until it is constant and assuring. That much the government owed the people.
I cannot believe that NEPA and the government of Nigeria especially is still asking people to pay for what is rarely available. It is robbery and very characteristic of the Nigerian government populated by thugs and thieves from the presidency to the last man in the local council area.
In my opinion this is a great scandal and it qualifies NEPA to be the worst government agency in the world today.
I used to work for a “NEPA Hospital” in Nigeria. I am not surprised a bit by all these epileptic fits that NEPA and many other Corporations are having. Nigerians by nature are infested with this syndromes of “I Pass My Neighbour’ or “My Mercedes Benz Is Bigger Than Yours.”
We are the most religious in the world but also the most worldly. Only God can clean Nigeria We like to show off and peddle influence to the maximum. We like to exploit our positions in the society. The Road Workers Union will not allow Mass Transit to flourish, The Association of Water Tanker Owners will not allow Water Corporation to do its job of supplying water to the people and an unrecognized source of NEPA problem is the generator sellers.

ladbol52, i must let u know that it is not d Euro & Arab gods that will clean up Nigeria, it is Nigerians themselves. Nigerians must stop being reactionaries and instead be revolutionaries and solve all d internal problems themselves in Nigeria. It is not the Euro and Arab gods which they wrongly pray to that will solve them for them nor outsiders, but Nigerians themselves, the onus lies with Nigerians and they must start having the guts as other people do have around the world!!!

Nothing works in Nigeria, poverty is its lot because curruption is the benchmark standard with which the country governs/ rules itself. Nothing positive but all negative development, there has been no appreciable change between my last and recent visit to that part of the world. There is hopelessness in the land. Nigerians are contented living life with no infrastructures required to run a modern state. Nigeria stinks! The country died many years ago, at a time, wasn’t this same country the hope of the black race, Nigeria has become a BIG embarassment to Africans everywhere, Nigerians are among the highest number of foreigners serving various prison sentences the world over! Nigeria’s problem is structural, as it is presently constituted, so long the country exists the way it is this moment, it can very well be said that it has set itself on the path of destruction!

Truly the PHCN in Nigeria should be extremely ashamed of themselves. Now, what they even do is they sneak into people’s compound, drop the bills at the gate and run away. This ofcourse is their consciences pursuing them. What is more, on the bill you can see a phone number written down for complaint and yet when you call the number, it doesnt go through. Should i now talk about the fact the meters which are meant to be read frequently are no longer read at al?. For example, last month, we were opportuned to have light only thrice and yet the amount in the bill was the same as the previous once when we had light a litle more than that. Am sure that if God were to come today by fire, the 1st people that would be attacked are all the people concerned with PHCN. They not only lack conscience but also shame. To think that this people actually have families surprises me. All i pray is may God pay them in their own coin. . .

I quite agree with the title of this topic. Infact, PHCN is the most useless organisation not only in Africa but also in the whole world.I recharged my prepaid meter with amount that will last for a while. Of course it will last for long since the power supply is near zero level. In my area, it is normal not to have power supply for 24hrs. Infact whenever there is supply for a whole day, we know that we have to pay for it by being in darkness for two to three days. Now after eight months I went to PHCN office to purchase some units and I was told that I have to pay N8,000 for those 8 months I did not recharge. Is that what prepaid is all about? Those that initiate this legal robbery remember one day you will all die and meet your Lord. So be prepared to receive punishment for all these hardships you are causing to the masses. May PHCN rot in the hottest part of Hell.

I suggest to whom it may concern to pleas sell that sector to a private combining I think that will end the crisis in that sector and mandate them to introduce the prepaid metric system that will introduce more seriousness in that sector because it will be service first then pay as you go. And if they will not sell it let them stop people from paying for electricity until it is stable/steady,because I haven’t see an organization where by people spend there money in electricity without being served or using it, it is a big fraud in a magnified level/position. Thank you all and may God save our nation Nigeria from the hands of selfishness and corruption. In Jesus Name (Amen and Amen).
