Switzerland (U-17) win Gold in Nigeria

Switzerland U-17 wins Gold in Nigeria

Switzerland has won the U-17 world cup in Nigeria. It was a happy ending for the Swiss who left no one in doubt about their mission in Nigeria right from the first game on 24th October when they defeated Mexico by 2 goals to Nothing. They also beat Japan 4-3 and pipped Brazil 1: 0.

In the rounds of 16 The Swiss beat Germany 4-3 after extra time. Italians were shown the way out in the quarter finals before they slammed Colombia with 4 un-replied goals in the semi. In the final match against host nation Nigeria, the Swiss won by a lone goal scored on the hour mark.

Nigeria played some beautiful football but it is the goals that counted and not the missed chances. Switzerland deserved to win this championship and they did. I am impressed with the tactical approach of the coach and the fact that he wasn’t screaming and threatening his players like his Nigerian counterpart. He stood and watched his boys made mistakes but never letting go of their defensive play and quick counter attack. It was the only way to neutralise the fluidity of the Nigerian style.

Congratulations Switzerland, we’ll see how this motivational victory influence the Swiss National team in South Africa 2010.

Nigeria qualify for South Africa 2010

African Representatives at the 2010 World Cup

Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroun, Nigeria and Host South Africa are African representatives at the 2010 World Cup. Either Egypt or Algeria will join the list after the play off coming up in Sudan.

I didn’t believe that it was possible for the Tunisians to give up their lead to Nigeria in the final game when they lost to Mozambique in Maputo and Nigeria beat Kenya away from home. I mean, if Nigeria was the country on top before the last games I wouldn’t want her to slip. I still feel so sorry for the Tunisians: they blamed the heat in Maputo and the artificial surface.

Mozambique has a very strong home record plus the fact that they wanted to qualify for the Africa nations’ cup-Angola 2010. They took their destiny in their own hands because Nigeria could have lost to Kenya anyway. But Nigeria survived even to my own surprise beating Kenya 3 goals to 2. One of the goals seemed to me like it was scored from the offside position. Why the referee overlooked is best known to him or Fifa rules that lies somewhere. Yakubu Aiyegbeni appeared to be alone in the Kenya 6 yard box when he netted for Nigeria.

Congratulations to the Super Eagles of Nigeria. However they do know that they will need more than luck at the Mundial in 2010. It is up to the Nigerian Football Federation to put things in order even before the Nations Cup in Angola. Going to the world cup with a fire brigade approach, ineptitude and useless preparations will be catastrophic for Nigeria. Nigeria should start preparing for the World Cup in South Africa today.

Sudan must not touch Nigerian footballer Stephen Worgu

By Adeola Aderounmu

Sudan should be warned, at least by the Nigerian Foreign Ministry. Sudan and the reckless sudanese police should not touch Stephen Worgu’s ass with one lash of the cane. I have seen a terrible video once when a man was flogged as a result os sharia sentence. The man was bleeding as his bare ass was flogged severely and at the same spot.

Stephen Worgu (photo; BBC)

Stephen Worgu did not drink alcohol, he has stated this in his own defence. A policeman stopped him and after questioning he was asked to drive to the police station. The sudanese policeman who has enjoyed a free ride in Worgu’s car alleged that he was drunk.

That policeman must be very useless and senseless. How can you allow a “drunk” person to give you a ride to your station? If he was drunk, shouldn’t the policeman have asked him to park the car instead? Stephen Worgu was never given an alcohol test, so how can the sundanes judiciary believe such a lie.

If there is anything the sudanese should be taking seriously by now it is the war crime offences that the sudanese president Omar al Bashir has committed. Sudan should also concern itself with solving the Darfur crises instead of “beating up” an innocent Nigerian footballer. This is very irritating and annoying.

The Nigerian embassy in Sudan must see to it that Stephen Worgu is not given any lash. The embassy must protect the rights of S. Worgu. The Nigerian embassy must protest vehemently to the Sudanese government about this false allegation. Stephen must be given compensation for this undue harrassment and embarassment.

The Nigerian Foreign Ministry must also warn Sudan that no form of injustice against a Nigerian on the Sudanese soil will be taken lightly. Sudan must remember that there are Sudanese living in Nigeria too and we are no fools.

To all who are concerned speak out now and don’t allow this mad act to be carried out. 40 lashes on Worgu’s ass will end his football career. I can bet on that. The guy could even be paralysed from those evil lashes.

Why would anyone kidnapp Nollywood Actor Nkem Owoh?

Adeola Aderounmu

Nkem Owoh has been reportedly kidnapped. A few weeks ago it was Pete Edochie who was kidnapped. No one has mentioned exactly how much was paid for his ransom, but believe me it must be millions of naira. Officially one liar will tell you nothing was paid.

Nkem Owoh is a famous Nigerian Nollywood actor. He is versatile and can fit into several role-plays in movies/ comedies. Now he has been kidnapped. I wonder how much his abductors are demanding and who they have been talking to. But it is a shame that these evil kidnappers would kidnapp such a honest and hardworking fellow. Now they want to rip him of his hard earned money. Nkem is famous for his role in Osuofia in London, a bestselling Nollywood comedy with settings in Nigeria and London. I do not appreciate his involvement in the “I go chop your dollar musical” because it advocated for yahoo-yahoo boys involved in the 419 fraud.

Nevertheless one hopes that this famous and popular Nigerian actor is not killed by the kidnappers. Sincerely I wish they let me go as soon as possible. We should learn to appreciate and elevate our movie stars. This type of evil intention is sending a wrong signal that Nigeria is perpetually unsafe for her celebrities and tourists. Kidnappers have abducted all kinds of people in Nigeria making it one of the most dangerous places on earth. I do know that the US, Mexico and South Africa are among the categories of dangerous places. It seems Nigeria does not want to be outplayed in any way.

Who do we blame? These kidnappers are lazy bunch and they put the blame on the government. Fine..! But why not find a way to address the government directly probably through mass revolt or demonstrations to drive home your points. The kidnapping of innocent people, mostly non-politicans is surely not the way to go. It is simply an act of cowardice to go after women, children and helpless men who are also struggling to find their daily bread.

I have classified the Nigerian government as wicked and senseless and I stand by that. The Nigerian government is corrupt, slow, inefficient and illegal. All of these problems bothering on insecurity of life and property stops at the doorsteps of the lazy government that is busy enriching the politicians and doing almost nothing for the general citizenry.

There are reports that members of the LOC for the ongoing U17 games in Nigeria are buying houses abroad and importing cars from USA even while the competition is in progress. It is this kind of official madness that motivates the millions of jobless youth into nefarious activities. With xmas around the corner in a nation of bad rulers, the rage of crime is expected to increase. Which way Nigeria?

Please find Nkem Owoh, the Nigerian masses love him and we want to see him in Nollywood for many years to come.
