Living Abroad Is Not Immortality

By Adeola Aderounmu

Let me drop these few lines from the perspective of a Yoruba living far away from the land of my ancestors. These few lines will be based on my personal experiences.

I met a guy in Sweden in 2013 or thereabout. Indeed, it is a mystery how I didn’t meet him in Festac Town, Yoruba Country before I came to Sweden at the beginning of 2002.

We shared common childhood friends like the Olisehs and he knew many of the guys I played football together with, like Ubaka, George and several more. At that time of my life, my football skills took me near his own place of residence in Festac town precisely along 711 road/ 24 Road. But we met first in Stockholm at the reunion of Festac people in the Scandinavian, the first edition, which I hosted. In the subsequent edition in Finland hosted by Ebunoluwa, he could not make it.

During my visit to Malmö in 2019, he came to my hotel room and as usual we spent some quality time together.

Onyebuchi had probably arrived from Japan in the early 2000s and he contemplated whether to settle in Sweden or not. A few years later, he sent me a private message thanking me for inspiring him to stay in Sweden especially after we met in 2002. If you asked me what I told him or how I inspired him, I have no idea.

I have listened to people saying I (Adeola) did this and I did that, but often I have no recollection of what they are talking about. I just do the things I do and always stay positive that everything will work together for good. I remembered someone said I gave him the opportunity for his first white collar job in Sweden. How was I supposed to know that? It was a job that we needed someone to do, and I found him suitable. That’s just it.

In 2019 I travelled alone to Malmö in Sweden. In fact, it turned out to be my last major travel before the covid pandemic, and the last time I saw Onyebuchi in person. I drove all the way and stayed at a hotel in the central part. But I was visiting 3 friends, all with Festac connection, and Onyebuchi was one of them. It was 2 or 3 days well spent during the summer holiday. Seeing Adex and senior Tolu will always be a pleasure.

If I knew Onyebuchi had issues or could depart so soon (around Jan 1, 2023), I would have strained myself to make another drive to Malmö. Who knows what would have happened? Together, we may have changed the sequence of history. He may still be with us today. But we are mortals. We will die. That we will exit this planet is the surest thing in life. Nobody will leave planet earth alive no matter how long/short, or how good/bad we live. Death is our common denominator.

It’s just very sad to die far away from home when life has not been fully lived, when that dream of growing old is cut short. I’m happy that Onyebuchi made Malmö his home and that he loved his young son with all his heart. The agony that is felt by the families we left in our home country is the sad aspect. It is therefore imperative that whilst we are alive, that we see ourselves as living things that want to survive, that crave for happiness and fulfilment but in the end, not afraid to die. It will happen anyhow.

We left motherland to live in faraway places. Mostly it is in search of comfort, the pursuit of happiness and fulfilment. But our accomplishments of these feats do not make us superhumans. Those who left home to faraway places are not superior beings. They are made of flesh, bones and blood. They are humans living with pains, hope, laughter, good times, bad times, thoughtful and thoughtless times. They fall sick, they get depressed, they may be curable or incurable of their illnesses. It’s still all the same about our frailty and mortality no matter where we find ourselves.

The opportunities we have to succeed are also still relative. They depend mostly on our competences and then that element of luck or coincidence that place us at the right places at the right time. A sad outcome of chasing dreams far away from home is ending up worse than what you could have become elsewhere (home or another place).

Personally, I have no idea if being a professor of Parasitology in Yorubaland would have made me happier than my life in Sweden as a special education teacher (of mathematics). Can I still become a professor? Yes. Will I aspire? I do not think so because it seems I have reached a point where I do not want my knowledge about things and my ways of reasoning to be subjected to measurement any longer. I believe with the right tools; every person can see how infinitely the human brain can function. I have been infinitely influenced by a phrase I saw in my cousin’s hose in Ibadan around 1995/96. Bloom where you have been planted. How do you know where you have been planted though?

If you have family members abroad, you need to start seeing them differently. Indeed, there are several millions of Africans scattered around the world today and the reasons are no longer due to direct slavery (even if some circumstances are similar to it). Abroad is anywhere that is not home. So how many people do you have to take into considerations when you think of the people you know abroad or in different geographical regions from where you are?

People abroad are not superhumans. They will develop new ways of thinking and acting after a long spell in places different from home or birthplace. They will make mistakes; they will fall, and they will try to rise again. They may be out of jobs, and let’s hope that is temporary. Young people generally, will lose their minds and stability if they are out of jobs permanently. Some of us will be crossed due to unstable family relationships. Humans are social animals and any attempt to find a way around that socialization is unhealthy.

Whether we are at home or abroad, we should make efforts every now and then to reach out to another (but not in cases when reaching out can cause you trauma or discomfort). Make efforts to build a new bridge if the old ones get burnt. One of the harms you can do to yourself is to be static. Make love. Make friends. Refresh your spirit. Laugh. Cry. Move. Run. Look back. Look forward. Think. Reflect. Find happiness and motivation within and around. Don’t take good health for granted. Exercise your mind and body. Read. Watch. Observe. Live.

If you open your eyes every morning, if you get out of bed every morning, think about what you can do better this day than what you did yesterday. Think about newer opportunities and if there is a little effort you can make to achieve something great. Within the limit of your human capabilities, not doing harm to yourself, see if you can make a positive influence in somebody’s life. If you can do without a payback, ask them to pay forward. If all you can do at a certain time, is for yourself, to be happy, make it clear.

In the end, home or away, we are all mortals with the same basic needs: air, water, food, companionship, and shelter. The major differences in societies, mainly due to types of government and use of common sense, are access to these things and the infrastructure that adds quality to our lives.

Association of Useless Nigerian Politicians In London

What is Tinubu doing with all the monies he’s been stealing from Lagos State and Nigeria since 1999? He cannot build or sponsor a bill to build a world class public hospital in Lagos. What a useless man! What a wasted life!

For some time now, the rumoured death of Ahmed Tinubu has been laid to rest since his re-appearance in London, United Kingdom. Mr. Ahmed Tinubu was a 2-time governor of Lagos State.

It means he was the chief decider of Lagos state for 8 years, from 1999 – 2007. It is also very well accepted that all the governors that came after him were handpicked by him. So it does not really matter what anyone thinks or who anyone voted for, once a candidate was handpicked by Tinubu, the candidate becomes a governor. Fasola, Ambode and Sanwoolu (the present governor) were mentored and instructed by Tinubu.

Sanwo-olu the present hand-picked governor of Lagos with Tinubu in London. Useless politicians of the highest order

It is therefore correct to state that from 1999 to date (2021), Lagos State has been ruled by Ahmed Tinubu. But the lazy ass is in a London hospital recovering from major operations/treatments. His present residence has become a bee hive to other useless people of Nigerian descent. Mainly criminal politicians like the terrorist-inclined president Buhari have thronged to London and are still on their way to London to see Tinubu.

6 useless and stupid human beings in London.

it is these idiots that I call Association of Useless Nigerians in London.

Tinubu did not see the need to build or sponsor a bill to build a world class hospital in Lagos. This state has been under his watch since 1999. What the hell is he doing with all the monies he’s been stealing since 1999?

You can see them, key members of the association of extremely useless Nigerians in London.

Each of one the people in the pictures you see here have the possibility to build a world class hospital in Yorubaland. But they prefer to go abroad for treatment. They steal monies from their respective states or from the national treasury and pile up monies in foreign banks. So many of them bought property in foreign countries.

If you have been following my blog since 2007, you would know that this is not new. It is just as shocking today as it was 20 years ago. Who would have thought that a new generation of Omoluabi would grow up and not have sense to do what is right and what is just for Oduduwaland? Who would have thought?

We can leave the brain dead Buhari (real or fake) out of this discussion for once because right from time, the name Buhari is associated with terrorism and extreme failure!

But what about Tinubu, Fasola, Fayemi, Akeredolu, Gbajabiamila, and the rest of them who have been in charge of Yorubaland? What have they done since 1999? How can they not have the sense to build hospitals that they can visit? How? It does not even make sense!

I think I have made my points. You think about the rest.

Nigeria Government Orders 100 000 doses of Vaccine

Nigeria Government Orders 100 000 doses of Vaccine

Based on Channels TV SUNRISE PROGRAM featuring prof Tomori, Alero Roberts and Tunji Funsho

Indirect Reports By Adeola Aderounmu

It is not often I wake up on a Saturday morning to watch a Nigerian TV channel. I have high disappointment in the role of the Nigerian media in the persistent oppression of the masses by the criminals in various government houses across the country. Somehow, I got caught up with SUNRISE (9 jan 2021), a program on CHANNELS TV and I learnt a lot.

“An idiot is still an idiot”

“Whether you are prominent or not, if you an idiot, you are an idiot”

“They are idiots, they are not prominent”

-Professor Tomori, reacting to so called prominent Nigerians undermining the coronavirus and the vaccine in Nigeria.

For this essay I would explain what 3 prominent Nigerians discussed with the presenters via video conference. These prominent Nigerians are Professor Tomori, Alero Roberts and Tunji Funsho.

At the end of this essay their names will appear as references. The essay is a mixture of their points of views and my additions.

These are what they talked about.

The Nigerian government has ordered 100 000 doses of covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer. Professor Tomori said that would be enough for 50 000 people. So, if Nigeria is a country (?) with approximately 200 million people, that means that the 100 000 doses is probably going to be rationed to the politicians and their families. Tomori also mentioned the disadvantages of ordering vaccine from Pfizer as it requires very cold temperature of minus 70 for storage. Nigeria does not have the facility for such storage. In the words of Tomori, the Nigerian government is stupid! He wondered why the Nigerian government ordered vaccines from Pfizer. In his words, Nigeria prepared for yesterday today while the rest of the world prepared for their tomorrow yesterday.

Tunji Funsho said whilst vaccination is very important, the priority now should be how to actually curb the vaccine in the next 1 year. He spoke about the need for dedication on the part of the population. “We need basic protocol to curb the vaccine”. He meant that the people must observe practices that would bring a halt to the spread of the disease.

“Stupidity kills and unfortunately stupid people are still going to die”

Alero Roberts reacting to people neglecting recommendations to stay at home and avoid indoor assembly.

Tunji Funsho said Nigerians should wear mask. He condemns congregations in churches or mosques. As a matter of fact, Tomori, Roberts and Funsho all were critical of the roles of churches and mosques in the continuous spread of coronavirus in Nigeria. Tomori said God is everywhere and people should sit down at home.

Tunji Funsho

Tunji Funsho mentioned safe distancing even when we wear masks. He said that that the role of the government is minimal even though the government need to do more mobilization and he also emphasized the role of the media. I (Adeola) don’t know if I agree with him on the aspect of the role of the government. I think the government need to be more transparent on her dealings and to engage the people daily. In Sweden, the prime minister is drilled almost daily on issues concerning coronavirus and the health authorities organize daily media briefing during the weekdays. So, I think a Buhari in Aso rock should move his ass and address the press daily and he should answer critical questions about the safety of Nigerian lives.

Professor Tomori dismissed as untrue or unfounded the insinuation that vaccination will reduce herd immunity in Nigeria. He said on the contrary that vaccination will increase the herd immunity.

In terms of maintaining protocols and following regulations, the three discussants were very stern with their words and warnings. Alero Roberts said:

“Stupidity kills and unfortunately stupid people are still going to die”

She said she has friends who travelled to some places and came back home with covid-19. She said some of them are now queuing up for medical attention. We should have considerations for medical workers by not exposing ourselves to the virus and by staying at home, she emphasized.  Alero Roberts said “We have a choice not to be an Obituary”

“You don’t need to go to church. You don’t need to go to the mosque. Stay at home. Keep away from indoor assembly,” she further emphasized.

While reacting to the video and messages by some prominent Nigerians urging Nigerians not to take the coronavirus vaccine, Professor Tomori said prominent or not,

“An idiot is still an idiot”

“Whether you are prominent or not, if you an idiot, you are an idiot”

“They are idiot, they are not prominent”

Professor Tomori would want Nigeria to emulate countries that have done well with the management of the coronavirus, for example New Zealand, Taiwan and Vietnam. He said the task force in Nigeria must begin to act proactively and focus on the people. He said the task force was not doing enough to dispel wrong insinuations.

Reacting to Ali Baba’s ordeal, the discussants agree that such ordeal should occupy frontline/frontpage news not just for a day or two but for a very long time to impress it on the people about the seriousness of the virus.

“How does it affect me that Buhari went to Daura” asked professor Tomori. He thought such news should not be the headline at a time when information about coronavirus should be a priority.

The three discussants cannot see Nigerians in general getting the vaccines until the end of the first quarter of 2021.

COVID 19. Before We Forget Again: The Faces of Liars!

….the Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Prof. Akin Abayomi, had said on Tuesday (2nd of April 2020) that he did not know Kyari’s location thereby sparking reports that the President’s aide was not in any isolation centre.

Before We Forget: The Faces Of Liars!

By Adeola Aderounmu

I just want to point out a major news that the rest of you will push under the carpets. Not my style for people in public service. Not at all. We are all not suffering from collective amnesia. Just not yet!

abayomi

On 2nd of April, the Lagos State commissioner for health denied knowledge of Abba Kyari’s location.

This date coincided with several twitter accounts reporting that a major player in Buhari’s cabinet had died of covid-19. Several twitter accounts went black and blank, but no comment from Aso rock.

According to a report in the punch newspaper filed by Eniola Akinkuotu:

….the Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Prof. Akin Abayomi, had said on Tuesday that he did not know Kyari’s location thereby sparking reports that the President’s aide was not in any isolation centre.

Similarly, in the same report the the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, refused to disclose the location of the President’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, who has been infected by COVID-19.

minister of health

Fast forward 2 weeks:

After all the personal assistants working at Aso rock released their statements on twitter, to formally announce the passing of Abba Kyari, the Lagos state government then confirmed that Muhammad Buhari’s former chief  of staff Abba Kyari died at First Cardiology Consultants in Ikoyi.

Suddenly, Abayomi started to tell us that Abba Kyari was/died in Lagos.

Why am l not letting go of this issue just yet? There are so many reasons, but l will concentrate on one or two. First about Lagos.

How can you tell me that you trust Sanwoolu or Abayomi on everything they have regurgitated on covid-19 and the situation in Lagos state when they failed the most important test of trust?

As far as l am concerned, Sanwoolu and Abayomi have failed the test of trust, and personally l declare them enemies of the people.

How many more things have they lied about?

How many more things have they falsified?

What is the gain of lying about Kyari? The whole world knew Boris was at Thomas in London. Kini big deal?

What actually is the truth of the matter?

What roles did this APC government of special advisers played in manipulating the truth?

Sanwoolu can choose not to address this matter. The same way l can choose to look at him and Abayomi and laugh at them as bloody liars!

sanwoolu

The fact that the federal minister was involved in this cover-up means that the entire covid-19 infection and operations in Nigeria are totally compromised. How can liars steer Nigeria at a crucial time like this?

Let me tell you Naijans, you are on a long thing. l just love this Swedish phrase and it’s the only prayer l have left for Bongo: May the wind be your way!

Chinese Doctors In Nigeria

By Adeola Aderounmu

wp-15820423458511510042585882154423.jpg

hi guys!

I just want to quickly point our attention to a small scientific experiment. As a scientist, l am trained to observe and analyze events/situations.

So, it goes like this…Chinese scientists have arrived Abuja on 8th of April 2020.

Now, all we have to do is to analyze the pattern of infection with cover-19 before their arrival and after their arrival especially in Abuja.

The results of both analyses will put to rest any conspiracy theory as true or false.

The results should never be treated as coincidence of chance.

If infection rate stays the same, the Chinese are good to go.

If infection rate increases in Abuja, the Chinese are not good to go.

This will be science and not fiction.
