This Is Your Lagos? Shame On You APC, PDP, Buhari, Fasola And Ambode!(PhotoNews)

Many roads in Lagos states ought to be shut down as disaster zones. There are accidents, deaths and several untold hardships on these roads daily. Those who are responsible for these roads ought to be arrested and prosecuted for crimes against humanity.

By Adeola Aderounmu

I took all the pictures you see in this essay between June 26 and July 10 2018.

Civilian rule returned to Nigeria in 1999. This means that Nigerian politicians in both the ruling APC and the opposition PDP have spent together 19 years in governance and still cannot put right what the military gangsters destroyed.

So the systemic failure in Nigeria today is due largely to the lack of performances since 1999. We can argue that the stretch is longer but that is another discussion for another day.

20180628_1209381532015443.jpg

Lagos is heavily littered. The government needs to step up waste management system. Somebody should care about health care in relation to waste management and disposal.

The state of the federal roads in Lagos state which is the economic capital of Nigeria is very appalling and disgraceful.

The state of the roads in Lagos state is heart breaking, depressing and sorrowful. (I will treat some parts of Ogun state in another essay).

I do not share the notion that a certain government is trying or that a certain governor is working. That’s all bullshit!

In the last 19 years at least, there are no more tenable excuses why the roads in Lagos should be so terrible.

Sincerely if l could make the decision, l will block all the roads you see in this essay. Human beings should not be allowed to travel on these roads. They are permanent death traps and l wish someone in the the world somewhere has the power to shut down all these dangerous roads in Lagos and elsewhere in Nigeria.

20180628_1212261920394344.jpg

Roads in Nigeria are usually of low quality. They get bad before rainy season and worse during the rain. There are rivers on many roads in Lagos. This is Badagry expressway near the okokomaiko axis

20180628_121231532912869.jpg

Federal roads in Nigeria are amongst the worst roads in the world. Shame on Buhari and Fasola. Shame on previous PDP government

20180628_1212421161218073.jpg

Nigerian roads easily destroy cars and reduce their life span.

20180628_1213011532088574.jpg

Very bad roads in Lagos. Is this actually a road?

20180628_121355935632839.jpg

Bad road. What a useless government!

Whoever is responsible for these roads since 1999 ought to be arrested and prosecuted without delay. Since 2015, Mr. Buhari and Mr. Fasola are solely responsible for the federal roads in Lagos and they should be tried for crimes against humanity for all the deaths that continue to occur on the federal roads.

Without delay, the Badagry Express Way should be shut down!!! That is not an expressway. It is not even a road!

Mr. Ambode is culpable too because he is the number one citizen of Lagos state for the past 3 years! What has he been doing? Don’t tell me he is trying! He is not the governor of Lagos Island, is he?

If there are reasons why Mr. Fasola and Mr. Buhari have not constructed and maintained the federal roads in Lagos, why is Mr. Ambode not talking about it to the media and to the world just like l am doing now.

20180628_121418568378369.jpg

Badagry expressway has no defined lanes. You drive where you find a space and this means facing opposite traffic ofen times.

Smoky and gangerous plus l was faced by an oncoming traffic driving along Oshodi-Mile 2. Trailers and heavy traffic means driving on one way is a common trend.

Lagos roads are commonly dirty

Badagry expressway. Very very bad road!

20180703_17560419926348.jpg

A trailer fell on the road due to the bad state of the road and big pot holes. Lagos roads are the most dangerous roads l have seen all my life!

The trailer could have fallen on people or other cars. But this was a single incident causing obstruction to the already bad situation

20180703_1758301639494251.jpg

Drving in rivers or on roads? Can we ask Buhari or Fasola? Vehicles face one another and there could be up to 8 lanes in multiple directions!!!

20180703_1758321858648325.jpg

These roads are the consequences of every N1 or N5 stolen by government officials! May you never find peace if you support a government or the governments causing these type of hardship. May your generations suffer!

Confusion and commotion

Dirty Lagos. Don’t tell me Ambode is working or trying. One dirty street means nobody is working! Somebody should be facing prosecution for allowing the people dump waste on major roads.

Bad road. Badagry express road.

20180708_160423690216811.jpg

Can we call this a road? Who will answer , Buhari or Fasola?

Crazy traffic in Lagos due to bad road

For one month at least, l’m going to pay for this essay on instagram and facebook. Then l will see what reactions we get. If possible, l will continue to sponsor the advertisement for this essay just as long as the problem remains and l will keep a tab on Lagos to see current situations.

How on earth can this be the situation and there are no outrages? What is wrong with Nigerians? What is wrong with Lagosians?

All the roads for transportation, state, local and federal must be in perfect shape and good maintenance. No road must be left untouched because the people of Nigeria deserve the best that life has to offer. You can’t do 50% of the roads. You can’t of 99% of the roads. The 1% left undone can cause death and other unwanted scenarios. You must be perfect. All roads must be fixed and that is the work/function of government.

The government is not doing the people any favour by doing what it is supposed to do.

20180708_1613531509431990.jpg

Mr. Buhari, Mr. Fasola and Mr. Ambode must put their heads together now and put politics and election aside for once. Lagos roads and all roads in Nigeria must be fixed. It is your job. It is your work. No one is begging you. You are servants to the people and serve you must or get the hell out of the offices you occupy.

What l saw of Lagos roads revealed to me that on the long run, Nigeria must do away with the useless and senseless unitary system of government as soon as possible.

This part of festac town has been erased from the map of Nigeria. 4th avenue with faeces and sewage taking over the community for several years now.

20180709_131654379165868.jpg

Forgotten part of Lagos in Festac. The smell on this road is more or less a biological weapon against the people.

20180709_131658724697060.jpg

Festac Town. From glory to grass! Smelly stinking 4th avenue!

20180710_17263348773444.jpg

Somewhere about Ajao estate in Lagos as we drove to the airport. Lagos is giving wealth to Nigeria and the suffering is massive in Lagos. I cannot comprehend the shame and scandal in Lagos

I do not expect Mr. Buhari to know the roads l travel in Lagos. Even a federal minister knows little about the roads in Nigeria. But a governor and a local government chairman will know better. Therefore it is best to review how power can be taken away from that useless office in Abuja and taken back to the grassroots where people can see and solve their problems regionally and locally. It is just pure common sense!

20180710_173949564639398.jpg

Someplace in Lagos…bad roads everywhere. Did you say your governor is working? I say you have a governor for Lagos lsland, not a governor for Lagos! Certainly not a governor for Lagos mainland, not a governor for Iyana Iba, Okokomaiko towards Agbara Industrial Area. Dirty, messy Lagos!

I have been writing about the ills in Nigeria for almost 2 decades and l could go on here again in this essay but let’s save the tautology and hope that my message is clear: FIX ALL THE ROADS IN LAGOS AND END THIS SHAME!!

Buhari, The Present Father Of Corruption

Buhari, The Present Father Of Corruption

20171015_131028788368653.png

Mr Buhari has taken nepotism and tribalism to the greatest level seen anywhere in the world.

By Adeola Aderounmu
In recent days  lot of uproars have trailed the APC-Buhari mandate which started in 2015, that is a little more than 2 years ago.

Whilst not taking credit as a seer, l remembered how people attacked some of us who pointed out early that the APC regime very early in its mandate showed traces that made it obvious that the status-quo was going to be maintained.

Mr. Buhari spent several months trying to put up a government. In the end he had no choice but to settle for the same old criminals that have served in various capacities under previous regimes.

It must not be forgotten that some politicians paid huge sums to sponsor the campaign and the eventual emergence of Mr. Buhari. They were rewarded with positions in the cabinet.

What is more shocking to me as a writer and social critic is the way Nigerians are treating the Buhari-APC mandate. They are acting like the government is off the track.

The truth is that the government was never on track. The government had always been full of criminals and thieves. How we expected a governmenr full of criminals and thieves to fight corruption beats my imaginations.

Nigeria is running a system of government that will never bring criminals and looters to book. If a system cannot allow for the emergence of sane people and credible politicians, how can such a system be good?

Nigeria as l have written before is a country going no where. What you have seen since 1999 is pseudodemocracy and for as long as we continue to shy away from the truth and the way forward, this poverty, this hopelessness and this criminality in the presidency that percolates the entire strata of governance is what we will get. There are no miracles about government and prayers are the most useless options.

It’s all about actions, what you do and what you don’t do. That is government.

I am one of those who have lost count of how many scandals that have rocked the Buhari-APC mandate.  Now imagine the daily scandals of looting, stealing, nepotism, triablism and outright madness that have been exhibited by Nigerian politicians since 1999? Since 1960?

The other day it was Goodluck Jonathan who should be hiding in shame that even made bold to condemn APC as a government of lies and propaganda.

I had to assure you before you go ahead that the writer  is neither interested in the APC nor the PDP. Hence my brief reference to Jonathan in that sense.

There was a tactical criminal tendency in the PDP from 1999 to 2015. For every crime, for every lie, for every shame and for all acts of corruption, the PDP adopted what it called “family affair approach”. That way the people were deceived and their eyes taken away from the ball.

In this Buhari-APC era that has since shown, in my understanding, that it is a variant of the PDP is adopting the same approach. But the mechanism is modified.

For every crime, for every lie, for every shame and for all acts of corruption, the APC first play the fool, keeping silent and pretending like nothing happened. Then people are invited to Aso rock and the dirts are swept under the smelly carpet in Aso rock. Little wonder the rats are eating up things there. It is stinking!

Buhari’s government is the most diabolic in Nigeria’s history. This government is the one that took lies, propaganda and deceits to the next level.

The evil deeds of this government would have meant less if for example Buhari or any person that is responsible in the APC stops saying that it is fighting corruption.

Which corruption?
I don’t get it.

How can you live and thrive in corruption yet you say you are fighting it?

I have sat back a few months just to observe this government closer. It is full of pure evil.

It is reckless and careless at the same time. This APC-Buhari mandate has perfected the evil plot and rendered the populace both powerless and thoughtless.

From a distance l see a corrupt goverment where all the key actors are criminally minded just the same way it has been from 1999.

I see a repressive government that is military-styled.

Just like before and now a bit worse, the democratic organs are still useless.

The presidency, the senate, the state and the local councils all stinks of corruption to the clouds.

This particular government needs to stop saying that it is fighting corruption. Those running it are corrupt. The head is rotten therefore the entire fish is useless.

I don’t want to start mentioning cases like Maina and the others. It is up to each one of us to look carefully and see how Mr. Buhari had been quiet and acting a god.

If the Nigerian politicians and politics are not useless and worthless, Buhari would have been impeached a long time ago.

But those who are to impeach him are not worth it, they are the birds of the same feather. Which is why Nigeria is heading no where.

If you like, look at how the NNPC scandal has been whisked away. Maybe it will give you a better picture of how billions of dollars have disappeared again under Buhari. Just like in the late 1970s!!!  Bad history repeats itself often in Nigeria because the people have stopped thinking

There was never a war on corruption. If there was one, it was never by Mr. Buhari who has surrounded himself with people from Northern Nigeria in one Nigeria. What nonsense!

If there would be a war of corruption in Nigeria, then we first have to fill the political posts with righteous people and saints. Today, everybody is stealing and the one who is caught is the thief.

We have a senate leader that l will never shake hands with. I cannot allow him to stain my hand and reputation. I cannot stand with Saraki just the same way I cannot stand with Dogaro the budget padder and friend of Mr. Buhari.

Which corruption are we fighting again? I am really annoyed now. Shut up everybody! There will never be a war on corruption. Just wait for it, Atiku is coming back! All the people who should be in prison are controlling the useless unitary system.

Nigeria is going no where.

By now the younG people need to think and reason. Is this how we want to go on? Is it not time to unite and take back Nigeria? Is it really true that we are all criminals waiting in the wings to capture Nigeria and milk it? I refuse to agree with that. Ther are no criminals in my family. I am not Saraki and I am not Buhari. I am not Amaechi and I am not Tinubu. I am not Atiku.

There must be a way to take back Nigeria, to take back the regions, to take back the states and find a better way forward.

Look at yourselves the youth of today. Is this the country you dreamed of ? Is this the country you will leave for your children? What a shame!

Buhari 100 Days In London

By Adeola Aderounmu

I have seen and read arguments about why Buhari should resign or “not resign”.

My opinion is the same even before he went away for this length of time. African rulers including dictators and democratic “rulers” have a lesson to learn.

They must learn how to groom successors. The mentality of holding on to power “at whatever cost” is stupid and careless.

Nigeria has a vice president who could have been smoothly sworn in as the president instead of the puppet that he had since become, a complete figurine/figure head.

By holding on to power “at all cost” in this case is several millions of naira everyday in a country where some citizens are still picking from the dustbin to find their daily bread, Mr. Buhari is fulfilling the old “craze” for absolute power.

For over 100 days Nigeria is running on auto-pilot. The intrigues are the same, perpetrated by the same cabal. We learnt nothing from the Umaru Yar Adua saga. One would think that such madness will not happen twice within such a short period of timeline.

It was Buhari and his cohorts then in the opposition who shouted to heavens that Yar ADUA should be impeached. He was not impeached. The man died.

100 days of spending tax payers money outside of the country ranks amongst the cruelst and most thoughtless form of corruption/looting I have seen in modern Nigerian history.

I know of Diezani and her own is on a league of its own.

To lie to the people, to deceive them and to spend their money at a hospital abroad is not far ranked. Stealing is stealing and looting is looting.

In several posts, l have questioned the budgetary allocation to the hospital called the State House Clinic in Abuja. What is the purpose of that clinic? What is the purpose of the several billions that have been allocated to it over the years? Can we close down the State house Clinic in Abuja to avoid this double spending. They all go abroad, why fund a state house clinic?

If you don’t see anything wrong in the absence of Buhari and him still holding on to power or the cabal doing that for him, then l am sorry YOUR MUMU NEVER DO. You can never have sense.

My Random Reflections @ 45

This present unitary government that has now moved the headquarters of the Nigerian government to London is foolish, and a means to continue to breed bad leaders or to turn progressive leaders into mumus

The new clamour for the restructuring of Nigeria and the advantages for it will on the long run outweighs the useless unitary system that had kept more than 100m Nigerians in poverty, living from hand to mouth.

My Random Reflections @45

By Adeola Aderounmu

20170712_131037-1

Adeola Aderounmu

This is the 9th edition of my random reflections.

Nigeria is still in a lot of mess. Nigerian musician African China prayed that we should not let this country fall into a well. I am afraid that this country is not only inside a well, it is also drowned in the well.

ANOTHER MESSY, CLUELESS PRESIDENCY

Nigeria’s president is unwell. He is holed up somewhere in the world, most probably the UK. Earlier into his tenure, in several of my articles, l’d suggested that Mr.Buhari ought to be home to his family in Daura, taking it easy and enjoying the rest of his days.

In matters relating to health, it is not everytime we need people or doctors to advise us. Common sense about how our body functions and how it respond to stress and rest should be more important signals. No one can cheat nature. President Buhari should have handed over to Professor Yemi Osinbajo a long time ago. Now he struggling to stage a comeback in the kingdom of hyenas, wolves and jackals. Who was it that described Nigeria as a zoo again?

WE NEVER LEARN

In the time past, Mr. Buhari and his cohorts in the APC/opposition party demanded for the resignation or impeachment of Umaru Yar Adua when he was sick and flew round the globe in search of a magic healing.

There are other issues related to the above. We know that several billions of naira have been budgeted over the years for the State House clinic in Abuja. The fact that ailing presidents always continue to fly abroad for treatment is shameful and extremely embarassing to the black race. What was the meaning of independence again?

DASHED HOPES

We know just how bad leadership and massive corruption had sent this country into a well. The hope that came with the APC-Buhari mandate was probably about 20% of that which came with the botched June 12 1993 presidential elections.

When APC promised change that was to come in 2015, the people bought it. They did because the Jonathan government was wasting our time, money and resources. It is now obvious that this regime is not better than the Jonathan regime. With the kind of fluidity that allows cross-carpeting and merry-go-round, the two parties, APC and PDP are in principle the same nonsense.

This government (the APC-Buhari-Osinbajo mandate) so far is a popular disaster. It is not in such a way that one wishes that the PDP government was never defeated at the presidential election in 2015. It is rather in such a way that one looks back with sadness over what had taken place since 1999.

Both PDP and APC have brought shame, destruction, poverty and extreme hopelessness to the ordinary citizens of Nigeria who numbered more than 100 million.

HISTORY OF FAILURES

The civilian rule from 1999 to date represents a time in the history of Nigeria where criminals, thieves, looters, assasins and political gangsters remain in control of Nigeria. In terms of prosperity, this period of time is the worse in the history of Nigeria. Previous failures have been recorded during the military regimes 1966-1979, 1984-1999 and civilian rule 1979-1984.

CORRUPTION UNABATED

Corruption is also thriving under the Buhari-Osinbajo-APC Mandate, like never before. One month ago, on June 14 2017, Mr. Olusola Saraki was cleared and acquitted of all the criminal charges against him in the law court in Nigeria. If you are looking for the biggest scams of the 21st century, that judgement will pass as a key blacklist. Despite the promise of change, prosecutions for corruption are rare and the buffer provided by cross-carpeting remains a huge joke in Nigeria.

POLITICIANS OR CRIMINALS

The entire political class in Nigeria itself is one huge scam. There are no new ways to describe the levels of looting, stealing, mischieviousness, misdemeanour and outright crime against humanity that Nigerian politicians are commiting daily, on a large scale.

The incursion of the military into politics in Nigeria through coups and later the civil war, would forever remain a calamity. They left with a constitution that turned Nigeria into a unitary state. They promoted and sustained corruption, nepotism, tribalism. They also flamed religion and ethnicity and brought Nigeria to her knees. The country never rose again and Nigeria is still crawling.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED

There are a lot of things we had talked or written about for decades, years and months. There are no changes, so it’s like we are wasting our time. For example, we complained about former governors looting away states’ treasuries through undeserved pensions. Today they are still looting (in form of pensions) several billions of naira monthly.

Several former governors have invaded the Nigerian National Assembly as Senators. They are on live pension even though they have not become handicapped in any way. They are carting away salaries from the National Assmembly and pensions from their former states.

We are talking about a National Assembly that is sucking away between 20-25% of Nigeria’s annual budget through world record salaries and allowances.

Is that change? That is daylight robbery that calls for nation wide protests and revolution.

POOR MASSES ALWAYS DEFEATED

Nigerians surely love changes, the latest being the election of Adeleke as the Senator representing Osun West senatorial district. However, what remains sad is the sustenance of the status quo, that is, head or tail the masses have always lost.

RESTRUCTURE NIGERIA

Some people think this is new whereas Nigeria gained her independence in 1960 as a well structred entity. Governance was concentrated in the regions and the country prospered. True, the politicians had their shortcomings, but there was progress everywhere in the country depsite all the political troubles. Progress was based on the instincts of the various regions to develop and outshine one another.

Therefore the incursion of the military into politics in Nigeria through coups and later the civil war, would forever remain a calamity. They left with a constitution that turned Nigeria into a unitary state. They promoted and sustained corruption, nepotism, tribalism. They also flamed religion and ethnicity and brought Nigeria to her knees. The country never rose again and Nigeria is still crawling.

The new clamour for the restructuring of Nigeria and the advantages for it will on the long run outweighs the useless unitary system that had kept more than 100m Nigerians in poverty, living from hand to mouth.

The restructuring, now put better as both political and economic restructuring, will not be a magic solution. However, it should in a matter of a couple of decades be a blessing for the upcoming and unborn generations.

This present unitary government that has now moved the headquarters of the Nigerian government to London is foolish, and a means to continue to breed bad leaders or to turn progressive leaders into mumus.

The APC promised to restructure Nigeria and got voted for that purpose but to date the APC-mandate carriers are promoting the useless system of come, chop, clean mouth and go.

PERSONAL LIFE

For my birthday, it is been time well spent with family as usual this time in Sweden. We gathered at the family country home to have a dinner. It’s been so for over a deacde now.

Last year, the celebration was in Lagos, a place dear and close to my heart. It appears flood and badoo boys are wiping the state and people away. Shameful!

I am happy despite all the problems. Nigerians are supposed to be the happiest people in the world a few years ago. Are we all still happy? I guess so, especially in the absence of rage and urge to flush the politicians away for good.

I believe in change so I resigned my position as the president of the Yoruba Union in Stockholm after servng for 6 years and organising 4 annual Yoruba Days in Stockholm.

Last year l published a book The Madrilenian, a collection of 8 short stories.

My next book, a story about how an Italian family tried to cope with the post-mafian era has reached an advanced stage and may hit publication in 2018 or 2019. It’s fiction.

In our country Nigeria, the more things change, the more they stay the same. We are in a dilemma.

Life goes on and nothing last…

Live and let live

The Fundamentals Of June 12 1993

The fundamentals of June 12 1993 revealed that every region in Nigeria should be allowed to control her own politics and resources just the way it was before the useless coups of the 60s. Regional government must now be allowed to stay and mature.

The Fundamentals of June 12 1993

By Adeola Aderounmu

Screenshot_20170529-080927

June 12 1993 will remain iconic and outstanding in the annals of Nigeria. It is very instructive also to relate recent developments in Nigeria to the significance of June 12 1993.

My blog (Thy Glory O’ Nigeria) is awashed with stories of the historic June 12 1993 election in Nigeria. One statement that l continue to emphasize is that the election was not about the contest between MKO Abiola of the Social Democractic Party(SDP) and Alhaji BashirTofa of the National Republican Convention (NRC).

These two presidential aspirants were only parts and parcel of a larger significance that the election and the results bore on Nigeria and the history of Nigeria.

To be clear, people have argued about MKO Abiola’s character and antecedents prior to 1993. Let us agree now that election is a process. It is an integral aspect of a democratic dispensation. Election is not a means by which anyone should supress voters’  or human rights. Election should not be a means to disenfranchising the people.

In 1993, the military gangsters headed by one notorious Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida commited the most obvious treasonable felony in Nigeria’s history when they annulled and eventually cancelled the results of the presidential election which held on June 12. It was generally known that MKO Abiola was poised to win.

The political transition that culminated in the botched election had been long and tiring. Nigerians had been patient and long suffering. But it all came to a dead-end when the tropical gangster Ibrahim Babangida willingly acted the script of the cabal and the North in ensuring that power did not transfer by vote to the winner from the South-West, MKO Abiola, despite the obvious facts that the votes had been accumulated across tribal and religious boundaries.

What he, Babangida-one of Nigeria’s most corrupt and shameless tyrant ever-failed to realise was that democracy is about the power of votes and the will of the people. He ignored the principles of human rights and the principles of democracy. He played out the scripts that seemed to have been written in Northern Nigeria.

He was disgraced out of power when he said that he stepped aside but he never faced charges for all the treasons he committed over the years planning coups and deleting election results. He was never prosecuted and lives today in a fortress in Minna. Ibrahim Babangida is one of the shameful symbols of the modern black race, a man who has no respect for life and values.

The discussion on why Nigeria’s corrupt elites and politicians have never faced corruption charges or even imprisonment is another inexplicable aspect of the Nigerian political terrain. That omission will continue to dent the intellectuallity of the black race.

Nigeria is an example of a country notorious for allowing criminals to roam free in the land, staging multiple comebacks to political scene and continuously looting the treasury till they drop dead or pass the shame to their children, accomplices and family members.

The obvious winner of the June 12 1993 election, MKO Abiola was eventually murdered in prison on July 7 1998 as he struggled to achieve the mandate given to him by millions of Nigerian voters. His death and how it happened remained points of discussions as different versions were thrown to the people depending on who was talking about it.

In 1999, Nigeria was eventually returned to civilian rule without the pressure of the June 12 1993 elections dwindling. One of the tropical gangsters in Nigeria, General Abdulsalami, who must definitely have a good knowledge of how Abiola was murdered under his watch eventually handed over to Olusegun Obasanjo, one of their own.

The arrangement perfected by/under Abdulsalami was a military one but it was masked by the hastened election that brought General Obasanjo to power. It was a move that was necessary to appease the South West after the murder of MKO Abiola. The North found a good ally in Obasanjo as he was now a civilian, eternally pro-North and anti-June 12.

Obasanjo was also a former military head of state and a major player in the electoral atrocities and malpractises of the late 1970’s. He handed over power to Shehu Shagari of the NPN. So for the umpteenth time, the Nigerian elites, the gangsters in khaki and the political pretenders refused to solve the political imbroglio that hung over Nigeria since the end of the civil war in 1970.

The fundamental lessons of June 12 are clear. Those who capture Nigeria at the center at any given point in time control everything. They have unlimited power and unlimited immunity. That is not true democracy.

It was the fear of losing that control that shook the North of Nigeria. It was that fear that made them murdered MKO Abiola. Those who sent Abiola to prison are the ones that killed him no matter how the murder was carried out. It was the North even if they had accomplices from other part of the country or from America. The story of Judas is common sense, not spiritual.

The fear of losing power under an authoritarian, unitary arrangement continue to grip the North. The North, over the years became too dependent on economic revenues from Lagos and the oil producing states. In the absence of clear cut agreement on how to sustain itself with the help of these undeserved wages should the structure change suddenly, the North continues to fear losing the center.

The North is always afraid and it continues to spread fear and threats among the other parts of the country as tactics for holding to power. In recent history, 3 key occurences have brought out the fear for all to see very clearly.

One is the annullment of the June 12 elections. If Bashir Tofa had won, the results would have stayed.

Two is the death of Musa Yar Adua and the desperation to prevent the emergence of Goodluck Jonathan as his replacement. The disastrous reign of Goodluck Jonathan did not help matters and the manner of his defeat through both [INEC styled] ballots and propaganda remain viable discussions for everyone keen on the progress of Nigeria.

The third is currently playing out. The absence of Mohammed Buhari and all the desperate measures now in place to keep the power in the North no matter the cost.

The crazy and defective ideology of born to rule is however the most significante revelation of the constant fear that grips the North. Unless one is born into a royal family, one is never born to rule. We have seen even how royal bloods continue to fade away globally. Born to rule is false hope.

In June 1993, following the annullment of the best election ever in the history of Nigeria, the message was clear: Votes will never count as long as the unitary system invented by the military persists. Nigerians were told pointblank that those who control the center will always decide the eventual rulers or Nigeria.

June 12 1993 showed us that Nigeria needed to restructure so that such errors and treasonable acts should never be made to reoccur. But the people were cowed and caged. Nigeria is still not restructured. Emergence at the head of the tyrannic unitary system can be well doctored by the electoral commission and the cabal. Past and recent elections under a unitary system justify these anomalies.

It cannot be rocket science. True, every system of governance has its own defects. Regional government had its imperfections and it was never even allowed to mature. Unitary system of government is like tyranny and on planet earth is probably the worst system of government. No matter the faults or defects that led to the coups of the 1960s, that system of government-the regional government- was far better and more productive for Nigeria.

Since the end of the civil war, Nigeria’s problems have become more profound and complicated. All the arms of government are practically useless as criminals hold sway everywhere in government. No matter the scandal or level of corruption today, the unitary system does nothing to address the situation. The system bears almost no difference under the military or civilians as most of the people in power have turned criminals.

Nigerians are living like in a rat race with their destinies out of their hands and control. Attempts to address the anomalies have always been myopic and selfish because rather than take an holistic approach to solve a generic problem nationally, the absence of leadership meant that a few individuals have taken advantage of the situations. They played the ethnic and tribal game so good that Nigeria is going in tatters.

It will be a matter of time to see where we are heading but it could turn out really worse than what we have seen till date. A situation that could have been managed by sensible leadership and patriotism led us to the existence of Biafra having her own currency and declaring her own holidays.

This has been followed by the Kaduna Declaration in which the North bore her minds and feelings about the East. No amount of retraction can obscure the mind of the North as clearly stated in the declaration, sponsored or not.

We got here because rather than applying common sense, rather than using merit, we sought to one useless federal character under a unitary system that promote foolishness, ineptitude, dumbness and corruption.

Nothing is too late in life. The choices are still before us. We knew before June 12 1993 that we were in an unholy alliance since the military struck in 1966. Some said that Nigeria was stitched together for the pleasure of the Queen of England.

Then treachery, suspicious minds and lack of patriotism took sway a long time ago. A long time ago, Nigeria seized to be a federation. She became a treasure to be captured and it remained so when APC outsmart PDP 2 years ago.

The political class realigned and continued the siege and rape of the land. Criminals everywhere, at the presidency, senate and all over.

Unless the system that encourages this type of madness is cut away soon, the violence trailing Boko Haram, Biafra(IPOB), MEND and the coming effects of both the Kaduna and Niger Delta declarations may lead to undesirable outcomes.

The fundamentals of June 12 1993 revealed that every region in Nigeria should be allowed to control her own politics and resources.

The time misspent in the past can be redeemed if common sense is allowed to prevail now. A stitch in time saves nine.
