What would make the ruler of Nigeria pardons a criminal and an ex-convict? The answer can lie in the fact that they are birds of the same feather. In Nigeria criminals are in power and the world knows it.

Nigerians know it and they think it is fine and like I always write, they assume that we will all become looters once we are in power. This anomalous mentality will be hard to erode under the insane system of governance in Nigeria.

In my book, The Entrapment of a Nation, I wrote about the monies looted by Alams. He is a pure criminal and as the governor of Bayelsa State, he looted and stole so much that it took the British government to put him on trial. He jumped bail in the UK disguising himself as a woman. He is a thief who has no shame.

In Nigeria, the more you steal the less likely you’ll be probed or prosecuted. Nigerian politicians are criminals and the judiciary is a mockery of the law system.

The police is simply a disgrace to say the least.

So you have a ruler named Jonathan who woke up one morning, gradually finding himself a lonely man, and decided to pardon a criminal because he’s probably thinking of his survival strategies for the 2015 elections.

This is 2013 and two years after his selection into power, this man remains a complete embarrassment to the black race.

Yet he finds himself able enough to start en early survival strategy for 2015. His former partner in crime came to mind and he thought the pardon would be a joker. It could be. In Nigeria madmen are in power and they don’t care a dime about your points of view or sane opinion. For them all that counts is how much they steal and how rich they get.

These people don’t know the meaning of life. They have no idea about the values and virtues of the human existence. For them life is about acquisition of material possession and monetary and wealth. That would be fine if it is done legitimately and it would be a matter of the choice they make.

But when the acquisition is from public funds and from a commonwealth such that over 100m people live below poverty level and several other millions living desperately daily unsure of the next meal, then it beat common sense how Nigerians reason.

That Nigerians have not revolted and violently overthrown the government is an aberration and I am as guilty as the next person. I am not even in Nigeria, how can I influence the change that I want down there?

But perhaps there are more subtle ways to change the government and the order of things. What about vigorous campaigns to decentralize power so that as a man from western Nigeria, I can influence how things are done in my region and how we manage our resources in western Nigeria? That for me is a better option to a violent overthrown of the useless democracy in Nigeria.

More than ever before my anger is towards the removal of the Jonathan government so that he does not stay one day longer in the office he has so enjoyed to ridicule. This man has shown that he is a criminal and that is why he can pardon his partner in crime. People should not forget that while Diepreye Alamiyeseigha was looting, Jonathan was doing the same as the deputy governor and later as the governor.

Is anyone surprised why the Niger Delta remained underdeveloped? Niger Delta is probably the richest zone in African but some of the world’s poorest people live there. These brothers in crime: Goodluck Jonathan, Alamiyeseigha and James Ibori are parts of the problems.

So the end is not in sight for the deliverance of the Niger Delta. For as long as their rulers and representatives remain criminals, the people will continue to suffer. This sad scenario is true for the entire region called Nigeria.

The country sits largely on different types of minerals and resources and has an overflowing abundance of human resources to tally, but waste and recklessness are the orders of the day. Nigeria is like a global waste in itself.

When criminals, looters and those who destroyed Nigeria enjoy pardon and make merry at the expense of 150m people then all hope is lost!

The American Electoral System is a modified form of democracy in itself. The people have become used to the system after 200 years and they are satisfied with how it works.

In my country of birth Nigeria one is constantly worried about the nature of the politics. Nigeria’s politics is a disgrace to humanity. It is depicted by lack of common sense and it does not serve the purpose for which it is intended.

Nigeria’s politics is bloody and deadly. It raises violent men and women and suppresses intellectualism.

Nigeria became an independent country in 1960 and since then it has been from grace to grass politically because someone fools and idiots ran the show using violence, arson and aggression.

In very worrying situations, intellectuals have been part of this worrying politics.

It is so sad because Nigerians are not ready or willing to change their violent democratic principles.

These imaginary headlines are so true and sad.

Nigeria will not have a free and fair election in the nearest future because the political structures are weak and the system of government is very sickling.

True federalism is needed and there is an urgent need to take power away from the center.

The people of Nigeria actually need a referendum to decide on the future of the British creation. This is why Biafra will never go away no matter how much it is suppressed by the reigning gangsters in Abuja.

The poverty in Nigeria is tied to the recklessness of the political status quo that promotes nepotism and total corruption. Total corruption is the state where almost everything in a system is corrupt and where the mentality of attaining sufficiency and happiness are tied to malpractice and ills rather than common good. This is the situation in Nigeria and it is very sad.

If this generation is too cowardly and too corrupt to make the radical changes, I am convinced that one generation in the future (no matter how long it takes) will make it right. It will never be too late to catch up with the rest of the world if the world doesn’t end today.

Barack Obama will lead the USA for another 4 years. Mitt Romney, the republican candidate lost the key states and lost the election.

Four years ago I was an Obama enthusiast. Today my views are completely indifferent. I didn’t stay up to follow the election but I must congratulate Obama for winning another 4 year term to lead the United States.

There are so many things to work on in the United States and globally as well.

The economy in the United States requires a quick turnover so that the unemployment rates can be reduced and many people can work to get a better life. There are lingering problems with house ownership, mortgage and health-care delivery among many others.

There will not be a perfect country or a perfect world but the situation can be much better than it is now. Four past years of Obama may not have been miraculous; the four coming years must be if the expectations of the electorates are to be met.

In several ways the Senate and the house of reps have a lot to do in working together to make America a better place.

But when the years row by and things don’t work according to plans, I hope the people will know where to look at. The USD 2 billion that saw the election campaigns through definitely came from some pockets and there were key players. Are people paying attention to the key donors and their interests? It is up to the American to do their homework.

On the foreign scene I didn’t like the role the US played in the death of Gadhafi. Ghadhafi was not a saint, nor is anyone of us. But Libya was prosperous and probably the best African country to live in under Gadhafi. There were the oppressed people in Libya (including strangely Nigerians) , there were people tortured by Gadhafi. There are ways to go by these symptoms of dictatorship that are far better than the killing of Gadhafi. What about not throwing the dirty water away with the baby in it?

Saudi Arabia has no democracy and this has never been criticized by the United States. Hence the double or even triple standard of the United States under Obama gave me concerns.

I pity the Syrians. One day they will wake up and realize how they have inflicted harm and injuries to one another without finding the reasons why they did so. Two or more wrongs have never made a right in historical perspectives. They can ask Liberia and Somalia what it means to live for decades without a functional government. Liberia is trying to get back on track and Somalia is still among the most dangerous places on earth.

In the Middle East generally, many issues have reached boiling points. I don’t blame other countries for the woes of a given country but the expectations and hopes are usually hinged on the US and her foreign policy.

China presents news and old challenges through her new leadership and old trades.

The bar has now been raised as Obama enters another term in office. I wish him all the best.

I wish my friends and acquaintances in the US the best of these four years. I hope they won’t look back four years from now and wished they’d made a different choice.

The future you know or can predict is the one you create. In a constantly changing world where the circumstances around you are often out of your control, it will definitely by impossible to create a perfect future.

Goodluck Jonathan and his crew are further driving this country into everlasting perdition.

Nigerian politicians are still looting and stealing the country blind.

Impunity is at a record high, executive recklessness unabated, corruption without equal on a global scale, militants are lords and terrorists are on the loose. They just murdered more than 50 students in their sleep.

Lawlessness abounds and the animal kingdom syndrome persists.

Nigeria is on the expressway to hell.

One of the major inexplicable factors that continue to keep Nigeria in the doldrums is the myopic tendency of the general population including surprisingly the literate sector. Suddenly we kept quiet despite the fact that we know that (USD110) N17b earmarked for Nigeria’s 50th anniversary celebration is not only ostentatious but also wicked, malicious, ill-timed and very unnecessary.

The non-essentiality of the expensive celebration at the national level is not related to the wealth of Nigeria. There are retired army generals in Nigeria who boast of more wealth than some nations in Africa. Money is not Nigeria’s problem. Those who continue to rank Nigeria among the poorest countries in the world must develop better parameters for defining their expressions in relative terms.

When describing the nature of poverty and penury among the populace it will be worthwhile to present them against the backdrop of what has been done to the resources and oil revenues since 1960. Nigerian rulers, dictators, politicians and tyrants have stolen more money from the national coffers than probably any other country on the surface of the earth. Nigeria is therefore not a poor country per se. But the people are impoverished no thanks to the extreme mismanagement of the various rulers, the current ruler being no exception in any way.

Nigeria is 50 years on October 1st 2010. This time in our history does not call for any national celebration. It ought to be a time of sober reflection. Nigeria used to be the giant and pride of Africa. That was back in the days. Today, Nigeria’s economic and politics portray sad pictures. Our educational system is so bad that several Nigerian students are now trooping to Ghana for tutorship.

Those who have looted, stole and destroyed the country have several of their children and family members abroad for education and comfort. To be sure, some people who have genuinely attained economic sufficiency also travel abroad for educational reasons.

It is not only the educational system in Nigeria that has suffered. Almost every aspect of our lives in Nigeria has suffered tremendous setback in such a way that the overall quality of life for the ordinary Nigerian is below the acceptable level for humans.

In the Niger Delta for example where most of our revenues are generated life is far from being a beauty to behold. National and international conspiracies have transformed the rich oil fields to killing fields and a valley of death and despair. Even the locals have not helped matter. As governors, fake elders and senseless followers they have contributed to the devastation of their heritage.

In Nigeria electricity generation is near 0%. Millions of Nigerians and thousands of businesses, big and small, depend on power generators that also generate toxic fumes and devastating noises. Nigerian businesses are growing and developing faster in Ghana than in Nigeria whereas the Nigerian environment is now widely videoed and used in documentaries to emphasize environmental disasters.

Health care has been so neglected that almost every Nigerian politician travel abroad to seek medical help. Last week both Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan took their doctors with them to the US. Where should the ordinary Nigerian people go for medical help? They have no money and still depend on the dilapidated health facilities scattered around Nigeria.

Apart from education and health there is a general breakdown in the provision and availability of other basic infrastructure. Water is scarce and Nigeria made the global news in August 2010 as a result of deaths related to cholera. Toilets are primitive in many localities and the level of sanity is extremely low.

[As I write 2 days to our 50th anniversary, an avoidable flood situation is sweeping people away in Northern Nigeria and people are swimming to safety on calabashes. Millions are displaced. The news and images spread internationally but NTA’s cameras continue to shy away from the disaster. The focus is on the billions of naira been wasted on parties here and there to mark Nigeria’s failures].

In addition to cholera, malaria also remains a threat to human lives especially in children under 4 years of age and pregnant women. Nigeria is likely the only country in the world with records of polio incidence. While the politicians and the corrupt public and private individuals continue to amass wealth, the generality of the masses-more than 70%-continue to live in abject poverty. They suffer neglect and live day-in-day-out in hopelessness.

Politics in Nigeria is the greatest source of our national shame. It is one area that exposes us internationally as “incapable” of governing ourselves successfully. Somewhere along the line we threw away merit and replaced it with mediocrity.

Tribal politics rose to unassuming heights and corruption ate deep into every fabric of the society. The concept of politics-for-the-belly, self-enrichment, inexplicable insatiable, evil urge for stolen wealth and the complete absence of morality in public offices ensured that Nigeria moved from grace to grass with lightening speed. Nigerian politics to this day is dominated by criminal minds and nonentities because of the violence and deadly tendencies attached to it.

While the other nations of the world including neighbouring countries like Ghana and Benin Republic made progresses and giant leaps forward, Nigeria shamefully headed in the opposite direction. Development became stagnated as some individuals made away with the country’s wealth. The military men and the politicians alike stole with impunity and in such dimension never seen before among the human races.

The most disheartening aspect of the looting of Nigeria is that almost everyone who stole got away. Nigeria has one of the weakest anticorruption agencies in the world. The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) started well and gave Nigerians hope but with the emergence of the third-term agenda of General Obasanjo in 2006 the agency went wayward and has never recovered. General Obasanjo made a mess of Nuhu Ribadu’s reputation by allowing Andy Uba-then presidential aide-to travel on presidential aircraft with looted funds without any consequences. Nuhu Ribadu did not resign as the boss of EFCC even when it was certain that the mission of EFCC was derailed. Today Mr. Ribadu is a presidential candidate courtesy of stolen funds. Who is fooling who in Nigeria?

Fifty years after independence Nigeria’s democracy remains in shambles and is highly disgraceful. In 2011 Nigerians are faced with presidential election which in my own estimation is a catastrophe waiting in the wings. In several essays I have argued that we don’t need elections in 2011. What we need are the structures to deliver free and fair elections in accordance to international standards. The starting point is a valid forensic-based identity registration for every living Nigerian. The arguments on these issues are available elsewhere notably on my blog.

While the government of Goodluck Jonathan will be wasting N17b (or more) on parties and prodigality millions of Nigerians will continue to live from hand to mouth and unsure of the next meal. Nigerian rulers are characterized by low levels of cognitive abilities. It doesn’t matter how little or much the education they received. It’s always the same sad story.

The amount of funds planned for this “celebration of failures” in 2010 is unwarranted. It should have been low keyed and time for sober reflections. We should have used this golden moment to evaluate where things went wrong and write genuine blueprints of how to emerge from our present pitiable predicaments.
Moreover this anniversary should have been dedicated to arresting and prosecuting all those living large as emperors with our stolen wealth. Not so.

Nigerian embassies across the world will waste funds this season to mark our ineptitudes and the world will pretend to laugh with us. In Nigeria on October 1 2010 Goodluck Jonathan will preside over the most expensive party in Nigeria’s history and cut the biggest cake ever made by man. No greater deceit. Shame is a virtue in my country of birth.

Nigerian rulers are fond of propagating lies and falsehood. They are so cut away from the realities of our lives one would think they live on another planet.

It is not a secret that most of the N17b would end up in private accounts at home and abroad because the funds have been inflated in the first place and contracts awarded to families, friends and fair-weather acquaintances. Nigerian rulers and politicians are also notorious for their capabilities to directly divert funds regardless of the original pretentious intentions. This is common in Africa and it’s a sad situation.

For the avoidance of doubts it is morally wrong for Nigeria to celebrate the 50th year anniversary in an ostentatious manner because of the resounding failure of the various governments since 1960.
Arguments against such a shameful charade have fell on deaf ears.

When Goodluck Jonathan planned or decided to execute a plan to celebrate with 10b Naira. We complained. We suggested that the money should be used to procure cancer testing machines for our dilapidated hospitals.

Mr. Yar Adua who was declared winner of the fraudulent 2007 elections died of kidney and heart problems earlier in 2010. The government of Nigeria should consider millions of Nigeria suffering/dying daily for the same/ similar reasons and procure kidney dialysis machine and other instruments relevant to the testing and treatment of kidney and heart problems.

It will also remain a human mystery why our rulers fail to see the need to divert money into the health institutions so that we can increase the life expectancy of Nigerians with figures less than 50 years. A friend of mine is planning to release a research report which amazingly revealed that the life expectancy in Nigeria is probably lower than 40 years. I have stated in several articles as well that the situation in Nigeria represents one of the hidden tragedies of modern era.

One man told me that if Goodluck does not do the party that some other persons will embezzle the money. This is the level to which the Nigerian mentality has descended. We have been brainwashed so much that we can’t think right most of the time. In our dear country several people believe in the principle of “embezzling turn-by-turn”. They think that government is a venture that will at different times benefit a few people directly and directly. This illusory mindset unfortunately and tragically is dominant in Nigeria. The essence of life is almost completely eroded.

The heavily corrupt men and women in Nigerian House of Assembly confirmed the stupidity in the Nigerian political space by reviewing upward the money for the party. We forget so easily that we live in a country where scavengers make less than 200 naira a day and they have families to feed. Sometimes they earn nothing over a long period of time.

Our politicians in Nigeria are special. We are complaining that we should have a low key celebration and use this time of our 50th anniversary to map out strategies that will make us emerge a developed country in our second jubilee and all we can get for the calamities in Nigeria is a party worth N17b or more.

The money is not a big deal to those who approved it because they can steal, loot and cart away millions through exaggerated salaries and bonuses while the rest of us can go to hell.

These people who think and act foolishly owe us no apology, no probity and no accountability because we didn’t vote for them. Our politics is jungle politics where the fittest survive and win everything. The weak and losers lick their wound and beg for favours.

We are in trouble and constant dilemma.

It is hard to believe how we reason and how corruption had destroyed the essence of our lives. Invariably the issues affecting Nigeria as a 50 year old crawling nation are huge and inexhaustive in a single essay.
Has anyone even thought of how much a N17b education endowment fund would avail if it is not looted?
Curse apart, suffering will persist on the African continent and even elsewhere in the world until social justice and true freedom are fought for.

They always say the best things in life are free. Social justice and freedom have not yet made the list. They are definitely not free. The oppressed must rise, fight and take what is theirs.

For Nigerians and several countries in Africa the days of true independence and liberation are still ahead.

The Bomb Blasts in Northern Nigeria: The Last Chapter or ?

In Northern Nigeria bomb blasts have become part of daily existence. Terrorism is in full scale and it is only now a matter of time when the real consequences will be revealed.

Churches in Kaduna and Zaria were blown apart today 17th June 2012. There have been five bomb blasts already today!!!

As a country Nigeria is a total failure. Anyone who wants to deny or doubt this is free to do so. But a real check for such doubting thomases will be to attempt relocation to Maiduguri for example. I dare anyone living in western Nigeria to tell his or her family to say that he/she is relocating from western Nigeria to Maiduguri.

Nigeria has never been one country and the terrorist movement in Northern Nigeria is a confirmation of the false existence of Nigeria since the pseudo-merging perpetrated by the colonial masters. It was the height of insanity to carry out such a suicide exercise.

About 100 years after the amalgamation of Northern and Southern Nigeria, the false union is about to crack violently. The civil war in the early 70s provided a good opportunity for each region to paddle its own canoe. I don’t know if the Yorubas threw away that first golden opportunity by fighting on the same side as Nigeria.

Boko Haram and the terrorists of Northern Nigeria have emerged to justify the actions of late Emeka Ojukwu. Chief Ojukwu saw ahead of his time and wanted freedom for his people. His tactics and approaches have been criticized but the principle can never be ignored and the face of the evil north has re-surfaced.

Isn’t it time to tear this pseudo-union apart?

Well there are Christians living in Northern Nigeria. But I think through carefully conducted referendum and negotiations it is possible to let people decide where they want their children to spend their future and to form mutually agreed borders that will put an end to this evil blend.

The bloody sacrifices paid so far should do for a meaningful way forward. Christians should not allow themselves to be the slaughter animals and they cannot always live a life of revenge like what has happened today the 17th of June 2012. Many people including women and children have been slaughtered!

Instead of individuals fighting for themselves, they should actually live in a region or state where the governor or regional Minister should delegate armies to defend or fight for them.

Mr. Jonathan said God will intervene. Really? On whose side? The one who said he was sent by Allah to kill Christians or the one praying to God in the church and turning out to revenge? Where will God be in this fight?

If you are looking for the meaning of clueless, look at the face, actions of Jonathan and listen to his utterances, you will find the original meaning of clueless.

The earlier Nigeria is restructure the better for everyone. This daily slaughtering has to stop and keeping Nigeria especially the north in his present state of volatile mix is definitely not going to help. These people have to be separated so that future attacks can be taken as an art of (religious) war. At that point no one will be able to claim monopoly of violence and fear will become a common factor.

What we have today puts power in the hands of terrorists/haters of Christianity and fear in the mind of church goers. It’s an unfair situation. To break the unfairness, the regions and people must be separated. There must be a way out.

It is unbelievable that Nigeria has a government. There are no signs of governing in Nigeria. The only thing that is still showing the presence of government in Nigeria is that there are people in Aso rock and Eagle square in Abuja who are stealing and looting Nigeria’s oil money.

Apart from that there is no evidence to show that Nigeria is governed.

People steal, loot and cart away the commonwealth of Nigeria. Jonathan is the head of these looters. What a disgrace to Africa!

Nigeria’s ruler Mr. Goodluck Jonathan is supervising the worst government ever in Nigeria. Jonathan is conspicuously unintelligent.

Two years of his reign is like Nigerians relocated to hell. Nigerians are killed and slaughtered like goats under Jonathan’s regime. No one is responsible for the security of life and property. In Nigeria under Jonathan the life of humans is not worth more than the life of an insect. People are killed by bomb blasts, road and air disasters and even they suffer attacks by militant on seaways.

These things didn’t start under Jonathan, but they escalated under his regime and they reached new heights. He said these things did not start under his regime and such a speech can only be made by a fool or a clueless man.

Why are you in the number one position of a country and then you say these things didn’t start with you? What are you doing about these things and what are you doing to govern? Doing nothing is not a viable option.

Under Jonathan corruption was redefined. Daily he and his lawmakers are stealing billions of naira and the judiciary and police are looking like zombies, perfect accomplices.

Nigeria is the most corrupt country in the world and it fits perfectly that terrorism escalated at this time when no one is accepting responsibilities for the evils in the land.

Goodluck Jonathan brought many badlucks and it appears that his regime will be the last in Nigeria.

Has anyone thought about how impossible it will be to conduct elections in Northern Nigeria in 2015? Who will go to the ballot stations when Boko Haram will bomb down the whole place?

How will campaign take place for the 2015 elections in Northern Nigeria when the campaign can be turned to a complete genocide?

Nigerians are planning for nothing but Jonathan and Buhari and even Tinubu are scheming for 2015. Are they stupid or completely insane?

In 2015 there will be no possibility to conduct elections in Northern Nigeria unless at that time Boko Haram is completely wiped off the surface of the earth and terrorism is gone.

As things are now, bleak is the word.

Uncertainty is the order of the day everywhere in Nigeria.

I cannot wait to see the end of the present regime. Mr. Jonathan is a complete failure and a waste of the precious time that Nigerians don’t have.

Nigeria needs a serious referendum where the regions should be consulted and asked how they want to continue the union or as separate entities.

Nigeria is too diverse to be ruled or governed from a dull man in Abuja. No one will be successful trying to operate Nigeria from a remote rock characterized by the world’s worst form of corruption, never!

Each region needs to be independent and seek the leadership of its brightest minds. This was what we had under the old western, eastern and northern region.
